Police: Roosevelt man arrested in homicide of Hempstead woman

On Monday, police arrested 43-year-old Jose W. Funes-Zabala, who is charged with murder in the second degree and endangering the welfare of a child.

Nassau County police say they arrested a Roosevelt man in connection to a homicide that happened Saturday in Hempstead.
Officers responded to a 911 call at a residence on Botsford Street.
Upon arrival, officers located 29-year-old Brenda Guadalupe Alfaro-Alcantara in the basement of the home with multiple stab wounds.
She was pronounced dead at the scene.
On Monday, police arrested 43-year-old Jose W. Funes-Zabala, who is charged with murder in the second degree and endangering the welfare of a child.
Authorities say the suspect became violent after learning the mother of his child was dating someone else.
" She was stabbed 34 times about the body," explained Detective Capt. Stephen Fitzpatrick, of the Nassau County Police Department. "Their son was there while the alleged assault took place. The child was not harmed."
