Nassau police confirm the man arrested in the Roosevelt Field mall chaos Tuesday was released on an appearance ticket.
Police say 19-year-old Aaron Darby, of West Hempstead, tried to walk out of Macy's Tuesday without paying for merchandise.
They say while store security was trying to stop him, a display case was knocked over and caused a loud bang.
Shoppers ran from the mall thinking the noise was gunshots.
There was never a shooter in the mall.
Darby is accused of petty larceny.
