Police say the man behind a series of armed robberies in Suffolk County has been arrested.

Robert Botti, 27, is accused of pulling off several robberies over the past month in the areas of Nesconset and Smithtown. He was arraigned today on numerous robbery and burglary charges.

One of Botti's alleged victims, a gas station attendant, says Botti stuck a handgun in his face at the Nesconset Citgo station back on Dec. 14. He says Botti made like he was buying gum, but when the clerk opened the register, he pulled out a handgun and demanded cash.

Two days later, police say Botti struck again at a Nesconset party supply store. Workers say he brandished a handgun, reached into the register and made off with a fistful of cash.

The owner of a Nesconset deli says Botti was fired after he was caught stealing a couple of times, and alleges that syringes were found in his backpack.

Botti's attorney says his client denies all the charges. Botti pleaded not guilty today in court, and is being held on $600,000 cash bail. He is due back in court on Dec. 27.
