A man found shot dead in a parking lot over the weekend in Elmont has been identified as a cab driver, which has other drivers fearful and the man?s family looking for answers.
Forty-three-year-old Michael Xavier, of Commack was found shot to death Saturday morning. He was working the overnight shift when police say he picked up two men from the Yesterday Diner in New Hyde Park around 2 a.m. Police believe the men robbed and shot Xavier, removed the body and then stole his cab.
?If they wanted the money he was a person who would always give it away,? Xavier?s sister Margaret says. ?He always used to tell us, ?don't fight, don't say anything, just give away everything.? I don't understand why they shot him dead.?
Police recovered Xavier?s Long Island Checker Cab taxi in Richmond Hills, Queens. Police are asking anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS.
