Police: Riverhead man faces assault, weapons charges for severely beating another man

The incident happened Thursday night near the lower Peconic River Fishing Access Site.

A Riverhead man has been arrested and is facing charges for severely beating another man.
According to police, they responded to the lower Peconic River Fishing Access Site Thursday night.
When they arrived, police say they found a man bleeding from his face with head injuries.
Officers later found the suspect, Shurvelle Rush, 47, in a nearby wooded area.
They also discovered Rush damaged the victim’s car during the attack.
Rush was charged with criminal possession of a weapon and assault.
