A 73-year-old man was killed by a driver headed in the wrong way while intoxicated on Sunrise Highway early Sunday morning, Suffolk police say.
The man who died has been identified as Dominick Capizola of Sayville.
Police say 56-year-old Noel Pastora, of Hempstead, was driving a 2000 Dodge Dakota westbound in the eastbound lanes of Sunrise Highway west of Locust Avenue in Oakdale around 2 a.m. Pastora's vehicle struck Capizola's sedan traveling eastbound.
Capizola was pronounced dead at the scene.
Neighbors say Capizola was a devoted family man.
“He was just a kind, family-oriented man…That's the kind of person he was,” said neighbor America Albanese. “If I needed help with something, he would offer whatever he had.”
News 12 was told Capizola was only 10 minutes from his house when he was killed. Neighbors say Capizola's family recently suffered the loss of several family members to COVID-19.
