Suffolk police have determined that a reported abduction of a woman in Selden was a prank between friends.
Police initially got a call at around 3:05 p.m. on Friday saying that a woman who was jogging southbound on Boyle Road was stopped by two people in a van. The witness said the people in the van confronted the woman and forced her inside before taking off.
A police helicopter was launched as officers rushed to the area where the abduction took place.
The participants in the prank called the police immediately when they saw the incident being reported in the media and on social media. Police say the pranksters were friends and siblings of the female jogger.
The Suffolk Police Department says it commends 12-year-old Sean Martinez and Anthony Foraci for finding a police officer on the side of the road and telling him everything that had happened. They also say 15-year-old Liam Wobler called 911 to provide articulate and extensive details about the incident.
