Police: Potentially illegal substances removed from Merrick home
Police say they removed potentially illegal substances from a home on Meadowbrook Road in Merrick.
Authorities say the investigation started as a probation check-in Wednesday. They say there's a husband and wife who live in the home, both of whom are currently on probation.
News 12 cameras captured a detective carrying a box of evidence out of the home. An officer was seen leading a K-9 around a large trailer parked in the driveway.
A police source says cash was also found, but the amount was unknown.
A neighbor says it was "unsettling" to see so much police activity on the block. She says the couple "were fairly decent people."
The home is located across the street from a day care center and the Bellmore-Merrick school district administrative building. There's an elementary school a few blocks away.
There's no official word on what exactly was found in the home.
Police are yet to name the couple living in the house. They also have not said if any arrests were made.
The nearby schools operated as usual Wednesday.
