Police say a woman was fatally struck by a hit-and-run driver as she walked to work in Hicksville Tuesday morning.
They say Gladis Bonilla, of Westbury, was crossing West John Street near Kuhl Avenue at 5:45 a.m. when a car hit her and took off in an unknown direction.

Deli owner Manuel Martinez says he saw Bonilla ordering breakfast minutes before she was killed. He says she then rushed out the door for work at AVA Company across the street, and then heard a commotion outside his shop about 10 minutes later.
“Saw a lot of police cars out, so I went out. I crossed the street and saw her coworkers, and that's how I found out it was her,” says Martinez.

Police say Bonilla suffered multiple trauma injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
People who work in the area say it's a dangerous road to cross because there's a lot of traffic and many drivers speed.
“I'm really not surprised it was a hit-and-run,” says Kevin Marriot. “You've got a busy intersection, it's late at night.”
Anyone with information is asked to call Nassau Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS.
