A pedestrian was fatally struck by a vehicle in Bohemia just before 10 p.m. Sunday night.

The victim, 42-year-old Christopher Gallagher, of Bohemia, was said to be walking on Oakdale-Bohemia Road on the Sunrise Highway overpass.

A Nissan Altima traveling southbound struck the man. Gallagher was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police have confirmed that the driver, 24-year-old Paul Inzirillo, of Sayville, initially left the scene but returned approximately 20 minutes later.Inzirillo's Nissan has since been impounded for a safety check.

There is no word about whether Inzirillo will face any charges.

The investigation is ongoing, and detectives are asking anyone with information on this crash to call the Major Case Unit at 631-852-6555.
