A bicyclist is recovering from serious injuries after being hit by a Suffolk County police car.

The incident happened just after 5 p.m. Tuesday on New York Avenue, just north of May Street in Huntington Station, according to police.

Authorities say two officers were inside a patrol car responding to a call with their lights on when they hit the man on the bike.

Miguel Gaitan, 64, of Huntington Station, suffered serious but non-life threatening injuries.

The officers were also taken to the hospital, but released.
