Suffolk County police announced Thursday a crackdown on drunken driving for the New Year's holiday.
Nassau police are also stepping up patrols.
Officials suggest revelers plan ahead for a safe ride home.
"Have a designated driver," says Timothy Sini, Suffolk's deputy police commissioner. "If that doesn't work, or it falls through, you can always call a family member or friend that hasn't been drinking. If that doesn't work out, call a cab."
Last year, 34 people were arrested for driving drunk or impaired across the Island.
