Police say a suspect wearing a ski mask opened fire on a man outside of a Bay Shore bar early Saturday morning.
It happened outside of C.J. Bond's Sports Bar on Brentwood around around 2 a.m. The 24-year-old victim was standing outside of the bar when he was approached by a man carrying a handgun and wearing a red and purple ski mask, police say.
They say the suspect struck the victim in the head and demanded money. After the victim gave up his wallet, police say the suspect shot him once in the leg and then ran away.
Friends of the victim took him to Southside Hospital, where police say he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries and released.
Neighbors say it's not the first time they've been woken up in the middle of the night because of flashing police lights in the area around the bar. They also say people leave trash and beer bottles on the sidewalk and in the street.
News 12 knocked on the bar's door for comment on this story, but no one answered. Reached by phone, the bar refused to comment.
Suffolk police tell News 12 that there have been three police responses to C.J. Bond's Sports Bar over the past year. During that time, the department says it has not gotten any community complaints about the location. But as a result, they say the department is increasing patrols in the area.
Suffolk police are still working to identify the suspect in Saturday's shooting. They are asking anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
