Police say a Maryland man has been arrested in connection to the 2016 gang murder of an 18-year-old Greenlawn teen.
Estiven Abrego-Gomez’s mutilated body was found in Huntington Tri-Village Little League Park in August 2016.
Carlos Lopez-Campos, 26, appeared virtually in court to face second-degree murder charges. He is being held without bail after prosecutors said he is a flight risk.
The assistant district attorney said the MS-13 gang member confessed to Suffolk police on camera to the murder. He said the killing of Abrego-Gomez was a retaliation against a rival gang.
Abrego-Gomez had reportedly been on social media flashing gang signs for the 18th Street Gang – a known rival of MS-13.
In 2019, Suffolk police arrested and charged two other men in connection to the murder. Lopez-Campos faces life in prison if convicted.
