Police in Nassau are searching for a suspect they say robbed a West Hempstead bank Saturday for the second time.
Nassau police say 40-year-old Romell Nellis, who is homeless, went into the Roslyn Savings Bank on Hempstead Turnpike around 1:30 p.m. He allegedly passed a note to a teller demanding cash.
The teller handed money over and police say Nellis fled.
Police say he was previously arrested back on Jan. 8 for allegedly robbing the same bank and another bank in Valley Stream. But under the state's new bail law, he was released from jail.
Police say there are active warrants out for Nellis' arrest right now because he did not show up to court when he was supposed to.
This case is shining yet another light on the state's controversial new bail reform law, with many people, even supporters of the measure, saying this suspect should have stayed behind bars.
Anyone with information is asked to call Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS.
