Police are searching for a man they say stole thousands of dollars from a frozen yogurt shop in Jericho.

Detectives tell News 12 an employee got to work Thursday just before 11 a.m. at 16 Handles on Jericho Turnpike and noticed the back door was damaged and unlocked.

Police say the employee noticed the shop had been rummaged through and that cash was missing from the registers.

After investigating, officers determined a man took cash and was carrying a small safe when he left the store.

The damages and proceeds total about $2,700.

Anyone with information is asked to call police.
