Suffolk County police are searching for the gunman who shot and killed a man at his North Bay Shore home last night.
The shooting occurred just before 10 p.m. Friday at a house on North Gardiner Drive.
Detectives say the male suspect came to the door of the home, and a resident inside opened the door. The suspect entered the home just as 41-year-old James Creekmore, who was also a resident of the house, was returning home. Upon entering, police say Creekmore was shot by the suspect, who then fled the scene.
Creekmore was pronounced dead at the scene.
News 12 spoke to Creekmore's distraught girlfriend, who says he was shot in front of their 4-year-old daughter and Creekmore's 16-year-old twin sons. The children were unhurt.
There is no word yet as to whether Creekmore was targeted.
Police say the case marks Suffolk County's first homicide of 2015.
Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
