A man is in serious condition following a police-involved shooting that happened over the weekend in Copiague, police say.
Detectives were speaking with a 39-year-old man at his home Saturday in the Amity Harbor section of town, according to Suffolk police.
Police say the man allegedly charged and threatened Nassau County investigators with a knife and was shot by detectives.
"It was a 'boom,' I wake up and go...what was that," says Copiague resident Cheryl Porter. "...I look out my window and there is about 15 cop cars."
A man told News 12 off camera he saw the victim speaking with two detectives for a while. He says the man then went into his home and came out from the backyard to the front yard with a knife.
He says he then saw police shoot the victim several times.
Police have not said if one or both of the officers were shooting at the victim.
A neighbor's house was also hit by a stray bullet that broke the front window.
The victim was taken to the hospital to be treated for serious, but non-life threatening injuries.
His identity has not been released.
