A fatal three-vehicle crash in Brentwood was triggered by an
impaired driver and left multiple people injured, police say.
The incident happened shortly after 9:30 p.m. Saturday on
Second Avenue near Hilltop Drive.
Police say 27-year-old Christian Lopez, of Brentwood, was
driving an Acura while under the influence of drugs when he struck the rear of
a Toyota Camry.
The impact pushed the Toyota sideways into the westbound
lane where it was hit in the passenger side by a westbound Jeep Wrangler.
Soraida Polanco, 57, of Brentwood, a front seat passenger in
the Toyota, was killed. Polanco's husband, who was the driver of the Toyota,
and another passenger in the backseat suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
Four people in the Jeep, including two children, ages 10 and
14, also survived.
All of the victims live within two miles of the crash scene.
A family member told News 12 that the Jeep passengers were on their way home
from church when the accident happened.
Lopez was arrested and charged with driving while ability
impaired by drugs.
