State police say a 33-year-old Oyster Bay man used the live video-streaming service Periscope to broadcast a clip of himself driving drunk on the Wantagh Parkway.
Police say they received multiple calls about an erratic driver on Ocean Parkway around 1 a.m. Sunday. The man was reportedly using Periscope to "broadcast himself in an apparently intoxicated condition operating his Lexus vehicle," police say.
State police logged on and viewed the Periscope video by the driver, identified as 33-year-old Ahmed A. Almalki. Troopers used the live video feed to determine Almalki's approximate location, and he was pulled over on Wantagh Parkway near Hempstead Turnpike.
Troopers say they detected a strong odor of alcohol on Almalki's breath.
Almalki was arrested for felony DWI, as he had a previous conviction within the past 10 years. He was also issued violations for failing to signal, changing lanes unsafely, speeding and crossing hazard markings.
He is scheduled to be back in court next week.
