A man was killed in a crash on the Southern State Parkway Friday in North Massapequa, police say.

It happened at around 2 p.m. on the eastbound side near Exit 29 by Hicksville Road.

Police say two vehicles, a Toyota Camry and a Chevrolet Colorado, were involved in the crash. The Chevrolet Colorado was overturned.

The driver of the overturned vehicle, 57-year-old Thomas Bayer, of Lindenhurst, was taken to Nassau University Medical Center where he later died from his injuries.

The operator of the Toyota Camry was taken to a hospital with injuries not considered to be life-threatening.

The crash had backed up traffic for miles on the parkway.
