Police say a man found shot dead near a house in Inwood Tuesday evening may been targeted.
Investigators say a female passerby spotted the man lying in shrubs on James Street at around 6:30 p.m. She then called 911. Police say the man may have been dead for a couple of hours by that time.
Capt. John Azzata, of Nassau's Homicide Squad, says he believes the victim was targeted.
"There's a possibility that he was involved in criminal activity of some kind," Azzata says. "He met someone there for some other reason. That's all under investigation."
The victim is described as a black man, possibly in his 20s. Police are still trying to identify him.
Anyone with information about the case is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS.
