Police say a man has died after being hit by a driver in Riverhead who police say should never have been behind the wheel.

Police say the unidentified man was hit as he crossed West Main Street in Riverhead just after 10 p.m. Thursday.

The man was taken to the hospital where he died.

Police arrested Matthew Nemschick, 54, from Mattituck at the scene for DWI.
