Police say a man was struck by a vehicle and killed on Sunrise Highway in Oakdale Sunday.
They say the man was crossing the highway near Connetquot Avenue when he was struck in the eastbound lanes by a 2017 Audi around 12 p.m.
The man, who has yet to be identified by police, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Officials say the driver of the Audi was a female who was alone in her car and not injured.
The Audi was impounded for a safety check.
Orlando Ramos, of Islip Terrace, told News 12 over the phone that he saw cars stopped on Sunrise Highway near the Oakdale merge and thought it was a car crash. Then he says he saw a man running across the busy highway in the rain.

"He jumped on the cement barricade and he was like on it, he balanced for a second and then when he jumped off it, he thought he was going to land properly, but I guess not, he uh...his foot slipped under him," says Ramos.
Ramos says after that, the man was hit by a car.

"From the impact, I just saw pieces of debris flying in the air, and then I was, I was still rolling alongside the car, but with the impact, the car slammed on its brakes, still hit him," he says.

Ramos told News 12 he was so close, that he could see what the man looked like and what he was wearing.

He says he saw a police officer just a few feet away from the man who running on Sunrise Highway.

"The only thing that I saw was the officer, he ran through the highway traffic, uh, trying to get him, but the guy, he was already way ahead of him," says Ramos.
Police have not yet confirmed details on the circumstances that preceded the crash.
