Authorities say a man was fatally struck by a car in Copiague early Sunday morning.
Police say they responded to Oak Street around 1:30 a.m. after a 911 caller reported that a man was lying in the roadway injured.
The victim, identified as 32-year-old Benjamin Zuniga, of Copiague, was pronounced dead at Good Samaritan Hospital.
Police say an investigation by detectives and the medical examiner determined that the man's injuries were the result of being struck by a vehicle.
News 12 was told earlier that the case was believed to be a hit-and-run, but police now say that the driver of the vehicle spoke with responding officers at the scene.
That driver, identified as 26-year-old Farmingdale resident Jamie Phillips, was not injured.
No charges have been filed in the case at this time.
The crash is being investigated by Major Case Unit detectives.
