Police say they caught the man behind a string of robberies in Suffolk County.
Police say Joseph Cassese, of Deer Park, was wanted for stealing cash in armed robberies at several Subway sandwich shops and KFC restaurants over the past four weeks.
Authorities say Cassese was arrested with the assistance of surveillance cameras, the media and the public’s help.
Police released a Crime Stoppers alert Wednesday, which included pictures of a knife-wielding suspect. They say Cassese turned himself in after his picture appeared on News 12.
“The individual's neighbor gave him a call and said ‘It looks like you're on News 12’ and the individual decided to come to the 1st Precinct to clear his name,” says Suffolk Police Commissioner Tim Sini.
Cassese was charged with three robberies and an attempted robbery. Police say Cassese was stealing to fuel his drug addiction. No one was injured during the robbery spree.
