A Coram man has been arrested on drugs and weapons charges following a crash that killed a man in Medford, according to police.
The incident happened around 12:30 p.m. Sunday on County Road 101 at Station Road in Medford.
Police say Malcolm Stewart drove through a red light and struck James Palumbo's car, killing him.
Police say an officer in a marked car had been following Stewart's car after observing the vehicle being operated in a suspicious manner just before the crash.
After the crash, police charged Stewart and his passenger with drug possession and Stewart with a weapons charge for a .45-caliber handgun found in his possession.
As of now, no charges have been filed related to the fatal crash.
Palumbo lived about 3.5 miles away from the crash and his family says he was just out running errands Sunday, as well as dropping off clothes to be donated.
The crash is under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact Suffolk police.
