Police have arrested a man they say attempted to abduct a 13-year-old girl walking home from school in Uniondale.
Video shows the girl being attacked right on her front porch Tuesday afternoon. Police say the teen fought off her attacker for several minutes before eventually escaping.
"It was definitely a violent struggle," says Detective Mike Bitsko. "This girl fought for her life and in doing so, she probably saved her life."
Detectives say it happened just before 12:30 p.m. They say the girl was leaving Lawrence Road Middle School when she saw the man standing in the parking lot. Investigators say he followed her for about half a mile.
When the girl walked up to her home, police say the man chased her and began to attack her. Video shows the girl throwing a water bottle at him.
After she got away, the video shows the girl banging on her front door and then hugging her mother.
The girl's uncle told News 12 she is feeling "really bad" and is "scared of everybody."
The family says they are glad to hear a person is in custody.
The man's name and the charges have not yet been released.
