State police say Karon Deopersaud was driving north in the southbound lanes just after midnight near Jones Beach State Park.
News 12 has been told troopers quickly located and stopped him. Police say they determined the 47-year-old was intoxicated with a blood alcohol content of 0.19. That is more than twice the legal limit.
Deopersaud is due back in court next month.
