A Babylon man is behind bars after Suffolk police say he broke in to a nearby home and stole a truck parked outside.
According to detectives, 43-year-old Daniel Shiels broke in to an Araca Road home at 7 a.m. Sunday while three people were inside.
Officers say he took two sets of keys to a Dodge Ram truck parked outside and drove away with it.
The homeowner followed him and was able to stop him down the road, according to Suffolk police who arrived shortly after and arrested Shiels.
Sheils’ lawyer stated in court that this was an unintentional act after taking Ambien. Peter Giattino said his client suffers from a medical condition related to his service in the Marines.
Sheils pleaded not guilty to the felony charges he is facing, and an order of protection was issued for the people whose home he allegedly broke into on Araca Road.
