Police say a man was killed and his wife and son were injured in a fire at an East Northport home.
According to police, officers were called to the home on Fourth Street around 6:50 a.m. Monday after a 911 caller reported a fire at the location.
Edward Woiczechowski, 68, was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner.
Woiczechowski's wife, Cheryl, 62, and son, Robert, 33, who also live at the home, were both transported to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation.
Robert has been released from the hospital and was too distraught to speak on camera. He says he also lost his dog in the fire.
One neighbor says it was a chaotic scene, and Cheryl Woiczechowski was on the roof trying to get down while Robert Woiczechowski was on the lawn yelling that his father was inside.
Neighbors say Edward Woiczechowski was a veteran who had an amputated leg and had been in a wheelchair. They say he lived in that home for at least 30 years.
A preliminary investigation has determined the cause of the fire to be non-criminal in nature.
