Police say a woman was critically injured in an overnight shooting at a bar in East Islip.
Authorities say it happened around 1:10 a.m. at the Outfield Pub on Carleton Avenue.
Police say a man pressed a gun against another man and an altercation broke out, causing the gun to discharge.
A female bystander was struck in the neck with a bullet. The male victim suffered a laceration to the head.
Police say the suspect fled the scene.
The woman was taken to the hospital in critical condition, while the man was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.
People who live in the area told News 12 that the bar has been a problem for several years.
Neighbor Chet Stevan says there are always fights, there was a stabbing in recent years and now this shooting.
“There's been a lot of chaos and noise over there and fighting. You hear it every night, they park all over the grass and the bar is a disaster,” he says. “I’d like to see it shut down or at least a respectable bar be put there.”
News 12 knocked on the door of the bar. A manager answered, but said they had no comment about the situation.
