Police discovered a large collection of illegal guns in Massapequa Park after a 21-year-old shot himself in the hand over the weekend.
Gerald Gilrane shot himself in the hand with an illegal ghost gun that he made, police say.
Nassau Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder says Gilrane was making parts of guns through a 3D printer and buying other parts to create working weapons.
Authorities say he shot himself through his left hand while cleaning one of the ghost guns he made.
His mother called police for help. Arriving officers say they found more illegal firearms, including two AR-15s.
"We have assorted slides, barrels and triggers...a Chinese star, brass knuckles, two of the 3D printers...and assorted rifles," Ryder says
The felonly complaint alleges that Gilrane said to police that he bought a 3D printer, saw people online that were doing this and thought it would be cool.
Gilrane does not have a pistol license.
He was arraigned on Sunday and released on $2,500 bail.
"We do not have any information that he has been selling weapons," Ryder says. "We are continuing to do our investigation, and once we do search warrants on the laptops, we will find out if any of his items have been sold through the mail, which would lead to additional charges."
Gilrane was released from the hospital and sent home.
He is facing felony charges and is due back in court on Wednesday.
