Police identify suspect in Friday's shooting near Hempstead High School

Police released the identity of the suspect in Friday's shooting near Hempstead High School.

The suspect has been identified as 23-year-old Jairo Cornejo-Crespin from Freeport.

As News 12 reported, crime scene investigators were on Tyler Avenue after police an 18-year old-man was shot. The victim was taken to the hospital where he is expected to survive.

The motive for the shooting has not been released, but police did say there is no connection to the high school.

Cornejo-Crespin is facing multiple charges including attempted murder and is due to appear in court on Dec. 19. He's being held on bail set at $250,000.
