Police: Homeless man arrested for attempting to steal sneakers from Carle Place shoe store, threatening to stab employee

Police say Michael Everett, 63, tried on sneakers at the DSW on Old Country Road at around 1:30 p.m. and attempted to leave with them still on.

A homeless man was arrested in Carle Place Friday after he tried to steal a new pair of sneakers from a shoe store and then threatened to stab an employee who confronted him.

Police say Michael Everett, 63, tried on sneakers at the DSW on Old Country Road at around 1:30 p.m. and attempted to leave with them still on.

When an employee intervened, police say Everett threatened to stab her. The employee then called 911.

Police say he was arrested a short time later. No injuries were reported.

Everett is set to face a judge for robbery charges sometime Saturday morning.
