Police say nine Hofstra University students were bound and robbed at gunpoint during an off-campus home invasion Sunday night.
The three men carrying guns and wearing masks barged into the home after one of the students opened the door, police say. Detective Lt. Raymond Cote says the alleged robbers sought out one of the individuals in the home and asked for him by name.
The five men and four women in the home were tied up with duct tape or other material. The alleged robbers made off with several cellular phones, a flat-screen television and a Sony PlayStation.
The armed men demanded money and made off with $1,500 from the male student they were apparently targeting. That student tried to call 911, but was pistol-whipped by one of the men.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS.
