A Hempstead man is facing multiple charges after being accused of stealing a woman’s necklace, crashing a stolen car, injuring two civilians and later hurting an officer while resisting arrest.
The series of events began when officers responded to a robbery reported in Freeport on Friday afternoon.
Police say the 27-year-old victim informed them that a man had snatched her necklace and fled the scene in a white sedan.
A short time later, the suspect in the white sedan hit several cars at an intersection in Roosevelt before fleeing the scene on foot.
A 45-year-old woman and a 28-year-old man were hurt during the incident and hospitalized.
Following the investigation, detectives located 30-year-old Jarred Sowers in Hempstead.
Police say an officer had to be hospitalized after being injured as Sowers resisted arrest.
The investigation also determined that the sedan he drove had been stolen from a home in Uniondale.
Sowers is facing charges including robbery, assault, possession of stolen property and leaving the scene of an incident.
