Police rescued a North Amityville man and his grandson from a house fire Wednesday.
Officers Michael Maio and Adam Quinones were on patrol Wednesday at around 8:40 a.m. when they saw smoke coming from a home on Miller Avenue.
They first helped out 82-year-old James Brown. Police say Officer Maio then went back into the burning home to look for Brown's grandson, who he says was sleeping in the back bedroom and had no idea what was happening.
The officer couldn't reach him because the smoke was too thick, so he had to talk the 13-year-old out of the house.
Maio was treated for smoke inhalation.
Investigators say the fire appears to have been accidental.
