Police say a father abandoned his son at the Island Park train station while he worked as a cab driver.

According to police, a woman who works across the street from the train station noticed the 8-year-old in the car and notified authorities. Police say when they found the boy, he tried to hide in the car and was reluctant to open the door.

Authorities say 37-year-old Othoniel Batistamall left the boy in the car while he delivered a fare to LaGuardia Airport. They say the boy was probably left in the car for several hours in the cold temperatures with no food.

Police arrested Batistamall when he came back to the train station. He is charged with endangering the welfare of a child.
