An alleged drunken driver plowed his SUV into the dining room of a Miller Place home early Saturday morning, police say.
Police say Gerard Tegins, 20, of Port Jefferson Station, lost control of his vehicle and drove across several lawns before crashing into the home on Parkside Avenue at around 2:30 a.m.
Four people were asleep inside the home at the time. They were able to escape unharmed. A couple who lives in the home said the noise sounded like a gas explosion.
Tegins suffered minor injuries in the crash. He was arrested and charged with DWI, and he is expected to be arraigned Sunday.
Brookhaven town is checking to see if the home is structurally sound.
