A man was arrested for DWI after an early morning crash on New Year's Day on the Long Island Expressway.
Police say the crash happened near Exit 49S in Melville shortly after 3:15 a.m. A 2008 BMW driven by 29-year-old Oliver Larson, of Elmont, was traveling at "an apparent high rate of speed" in the eastbound lanes, police say.
The BMW rear-ended a Nissan vehicle in the right lane, and the Nissan overturned on the side of the road. The female driver of that vehicle was taken to Huntington Hospital with minor injuries.
After the impact, the BMW careened into the woods on the side of the highway. Three passengers in the BMW were taken to Huntington Hospital with minor injuries.
Larson was arrested and charged with DWI. He was not injured, police say.
