Police say a driver was under the influence of alcohol in a vehicle pursuit that started in Shirley and ended with a crash in Farmingville early this morning.
Police attempted to stop a vehicle on the William Floyd Parkway near Victory Avenue after they saw it had no lights on and it appeared the operator could be driving intoxicated, police say.
According to police, the vehicle fled and the officers pursued it until approximately 12:23 a.m. when the pursuit was terminated.
Police say as the vehicle reached the intersection of Route 112, officers observed that the vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed. At 12:31 a.m., police say the vehicle had hit a pole and a tree, and then overturned at the corner of Horseblock Road and Liber Boulevard.
According to police, the driver was pinned inside the vehicle and was extricated. He was then transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
News 12 has learned the vehicle was stolen, but the owner had not yet filed a report.
The vehicle was impounded as evidence and charges are pending against the driver.
