Police say an out-of-control driver on drugs slammed into a deck and a home, collapsing a swimming pool and flooding the house, before running off naked.
Police say the erratic driver, identified as 32-year old John Winn, swerved off Ridgewood Drive in Shirley at high speed - crossing two lawns, crashing through two properties and careening into the Sandolo family's backyard. Winn took off his clothes and fled the scene, according to police. He was arrested, still naked, a short time later. The arrest was recorded on cellphone video.
Winn was taken to Brookhaven Hospital for a medical evaluation. He was then charged with driving while impaired by drugs, reckless driving and leaving the scene of an accident, all misdemeanors.
Waves from the above-ground pool sent water into the house, ruining the Sandolos' kitchen and living room.
"My mother started breaking down crying, 'cause it's her house, you know," says the couple's son, Matt. "You don't expect a car in your kitchen in the middle of the night."
The Sandolos are happy no one was hurt.
"It could be fixed, it's only a house," says Ron Sandolo.
If convicted, Winn could be required to serve a jail term of up to one year on the charges.
