Police say a driver struck two bicyclists, one fatally, before slamming into a home in Hicksville.
Around 4 p.m. Wednesday, police say the driver of a 2002 Ford Explorer was heading southbound on New South Road when the SUV crossed into the northbound lanes, crashing into a pair of cyclists -- a father in his 70s and his daughter. The father was injured and his daughter was pronounced dead.
After striking the bicyclists, police say the Ford continued southbound, clipped another vehicle and wound up plowing through the front porch of a home. No one was injured. The Town of Oyster Bay has since condemned the structure.
The Red Cross is working to assist the displaced residents.
Police have not yet identified the Ford driver or the victims. The driver and a passenger, as well as the male cyclist, were hospitalized and treated for injuries not considered life-threatening.
No arrests have been made at this point.
