It's back to school for hundreds of Long Island kids this week, and one Nassau community got some much needed supplies on Saturday.
Kids in Westbury came to Martin Bunky Reid Park to get free backpacks filled with school supplies. More than 1,000 backpacks were handed out.
The supplies were donated by the Nassau County Police Benevolent Association, Police Foundation, Superior Officers Association and the Nassau Detectives Association.
"I think this shows that the community supports the police and police absolutely support the communities they work in," said Nassau PBA president James Carver.
The event also featured music, food and face painting.
