An 18-year-old Coram man was arrested Tuesday morning after allegedly stabbing his mother to death.
Suffolk police say Jacob Beechem stabbed his mother, Donette Beechem, inside The Preserve apartment complex at 37 Steven Place around 7:15 a.m.
They say Jacob Beechem was injured after he fell from a window in an attempt to flee the apartment. Donette Beechem, 47, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police.
Shanada Little says she called 911 immediately after seeing Jacob Beechem lying injured on the driveway outside their home.
"I was scared because I thought he died…it's a pretty high jump,” says Little.
Neighbor Mitchell Calliste tells News 12 that there had been arguing inside the home for the past three or four days.
Jacob Beechem was admitted to Stony Brook University Hospital for injuries that did not appear life-threatening. He was charged with murder in the second degree and will be arraigned at a later date.
Neighbors say the teen’s stepfather returned home to the complex late in the morning.
