A Copiague mother was arraigned Thursday after she allegedly left her child alone inside a running car in the parking lot of the Levittown Target store.
Police say Juliia Medvid, 29, left her 3-year old son in a car seat while she went inside the store to shop. They say the car was running and the window were up. It was not immediately clear if the air conditioning was on.
Officers were called to the parking lot on Hempstead Turnpike around 3:30 p.m. When they arrived, Medvid came out of the store and told the officers she'd only been gone a few minutes.
Her child was not hurt and was released to a family friend.
Medvid was arraigned on endangering the welfare of a child charges and was released on her own recognizance.
Nassau Police Lt. Richard Lebrun says Medvid must complete parenting classes.
She is due back in court in October.
