Suffolk police say the façade of an apartment complex in Central Islip collapsed Thursday, damaging six vehicles under falling bricks.
The incident occurred around 11 a.m. at the Hawthorne Court Apartment Complex.
Officials say there were no injuries and no one has been displaced.
Police say the Central Islip Fire Department responded. The Town of Islip fire marshal and building inspector have been notified. There is no information into the cause of the incident, including whether it was related to the nor'easter.
When asked about when the building was last inspected, an employee of Lincoln Properties, which owns the building, said, "I can't disclose that information ... we're trying to figure out what's going on with our archives, but the most important thing is that no one was hurt."
The drivers of the affected vehicles are now left to pick up the pieces.
"They're telling us to go through our insurance companies," says Patience Daniels. "I'm a single mother, I only have liability, so how am I going to get back and forth to work?"
The Town of Islip says there have been no complaints or violations with the property. The town's Building Department went to the site Thursday and asked that the debris be cleaned up.
