A former church elder from Central Islip is accused of approaching a teenage boy and offering him money for sex.
Rosemberg Berrios, 42, is charged with endangering the welfare of a child and patronizing a prostitute in the second degree. Police say Berrios was parked at a 7-Eleven near his home Sunday evening when he allegedly called the 13-year-old over to his car and made the offer. The boy was able to take down Berrios' license plate number and called the authorities, leading to the arrest.
Berrios claims to be a church elder at the Seventh Day Adventis Church in Patchogue. The church denies this and says he is just a member. Seventh Day does say Berrios was an elder at a Brentwood church, however.
