The 10-year-old boy who police say brought a loaded handgun to his Baldwin school Monday has been charged with criminal possession of a weapon.
Police say the fourth-grader had the .40-caliber pistol in his backpack and that a Meadow Elementary School lunch monitor noticed the boy showing it off to his friends.
They say there was one bullet in the chamber and several more in the magazine.
Officials say they believe the boy got the gun from a relative's home.
The student is due back in family court next month.
